Hurricanes Name New Executive Director
The Connecticut Hurricanes are pleased to announce that Greg Sember has been appointed as their new Executive Director for the 2019 DCA season. Greg works as a high school chemistry teacher and is the Assistant Band Director of the Lyman Hall High School Marching Band. He met his lovely wife Lauren in 2013 while both were performing members of the corps. Lauren was a member of the color guard while Greg was playing trumpet in the horn line. Greg joined the Hurricanes in 2005 as a member of the horn line playing soprano. He has been a longtime member of the Hurricanes as both a trumpet player, mellophone player, and drum major. He most recently served as the Corps Manager of Membership working alongside the Director to oversee the drum corps. His goal for the corps is to provide a unique and rewarding learning experience for its members by participating in corps traditions, cultivating a family atmosphere, and fostering a culture of excellence. He wishes to thank the fans for all their support as they work their way back up the DCA rankings.
The Hurricanes are starting up Stormchasers Volunteer Group as their first official volunteer group. The corps encourages parents, alumni, and supporters to contact Cathy Rehaag at Rehaag@yahoo.com for volunteer opportunities. The Hurricanes are also purchasing new System Blue horns this season as they start to replace any old and worn out equipment.
The show for 2019 is titled ” Seven Deadly Sins ” with the musical selections to be announced at a later date. The Hurricanes are dedicating their 2019 season to the 1969 Hurricanes who captured the DCA World Championship year 50 years ago.
The corps would like to extend their thanks to Brian Maroldt for serving as Director for the past two seasons. In his time as Director, the Hurricanes regained their competitive edge and returned to DCA finals. The administrative and instructional team that Brian put together will remain intact. Although Brian is stepping down as Director, he is not going anywhere. Brian will be returning to the field for the 2019 season and will remain an integral member of the administrative team. Best of luck to the Connecticut Hurricanes in the upcoming 2019 DCA season.
